CLC Petitions Federal Election Commission to Amend Regulations on Refunding Illegal Contributions

On Aug. 25, 2022, Campaign Legal Center (CLC) submitted a petition for rulemaking to the Federal Election Commission (FEC), which urges the FEC to amend or clarify its regulations regarding the refunding of illegal contributions to explicitly recognize that committees may disgorge illegal contributions to the U.S. Treasury, and that the FEC will require such disgorgement when necessary to uphold the enforcement interests of federal campaign finance laws.
