CLC Letter Urging Maine Governor to Veto L.D. 726

On June 15, 2023, Campaign Legal Center submitted a letter to the Office of the Governor of Maine urging the governor to veto L.D. 726, which rolls back important safeguards against corruption in Maine elections that prohibit direct corporate contributions to Maine candidates and limit contributions to leadership PACs. These provisions protect against quid pro quo corruption and the appearance of such corruption in Maine elections and ensure elected officials are accountable to Maine voters. Rather than undoing these important safeguards, they should be strengthened.
