CLC Files Comment on Federal Election Commission’s Technological Modernization Rulemaking

Date

On January 9, 2023, Campaign Legal Center (CLC) filed a comment on the Federal Election Commission’s (FEC) Technological Modernization rulemaking. CLC urged the FEC to add communications “promoted for a fee” to its definition of “public communication” and to its disclaimer regulation. CLC noted that political committees often pay influencers and social media platforms to “promote” content, and the FEC should make it crystal clear that such communications require disclaimers and are subject to existing coordination restrictions.
