CLC Files Comment on FEC Rulemaking re: Technological Modernization

Date

Campaign Legal Center (CLC) has filed a public comment in a Federal Election Commission (FEC) rulemaking (REG 2013-01) to modernize FEC regulations to address recent technologies. CLC’s comment notes that this rulemaking has been pending since 2013, during which time an increasing share of voters have begun consuming information and entertainment on streaming channels and apps, as well as other digital and social media, which are not mentioned by the Federal Election Campaign Act (FECA) or FEC regulations, and that the FEC’s definition of a “public communication” needs amending to close the archaic “internet exemption” loophole.
