CLC Comments on Initial Proposals for Updating OMB’s Race and Ethnicity Statistical Standards

Date

CLC submitted comments in support of proposals to modernize the federal government’s collection of race and ethnicity data on federal forms, including the decennial Census and the American Communities Survey. An accurate count of all racial and ethnic communities in the United States is essential for ensuring fair representation and equal access to the freedom to vote. CLC wrote specifically in support of the proposal to add a new reporting category for people of Middle Eastern and North African descent and encouraged OMB to continue evaluating use of a combined race and ethnicity question.
