6th Circuit Court of Appeals En Banc Opinion Upholding Federal Coordinated Spending Limits
On September 5, 2024, the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals, sitting en banc, affirmed the constitutionality of the federal limits on the amounts that a political party can spend in “coordination” with federal candidates. The Court of Appeals recognized and followed an earlier 2001 decision by the U.S. Supreme Court which had upheld these limits as an important anti-corruption tool to combat attempts to route large donations though party committees in circumvention of the individual contribution limits.
