Campaign Legal Center (CLC) celebrates the life of John H. Harwood II, and is deeply honored that he selected CLC as a recipient for memorial contributions. John led a life inspired by a commitment to social justice.

After earning a Juris Doctor degree from Columbia Law School and an LLM from Georgetown University through the Institute for Public Interest Representation, John joined Wilmer, Cutler and Pickering, now WilmerHale, in 1975, becoming a partner in 1981.

A close friend of CLC board member Roger Witten, John’s support for the Campaign Legal Center came from a deep commitment to the issues on which CLC works. Roger and John met as colleagues at Wilmer Hale and they and their families became great friends over the years.

According to Ambassador Tod Sedgwick, another friend and CLC supporter, "John Harwood had a passionate commitment to making sure our country had the kind of democracy that has integrity. He was a vocal opponent of voter suppression and gerrymandering. He had confidence in CLC as the leading organization addressing these issues."

John’s obituary can be found here. Please direct contributions to CLC in memory of John using this link.

Campaign Legal Center is grateful and humbled to be supported by such a leader in the legal community and a pillar of pro-democracy work.

Trevor is CLC's founder and one of the country's top election lawyers.
