After Florida’s Online Voter Registration System crashed for several hours on October 5, 2020—the deadline to register in Florida—CLC joined 34 other voting rights groups to urge Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Secretary of State Laurel Lee to extend the voter registration deadline by two days to 11:59 p.m. on October 7 and ensure that Floridians are not denied the opportunity to register because of the state’s faulty online system. 

On Sept. 30, 2020, a district court judge denied a motion from the Trump campaign that tried to prevent Montana Gov. Steve Bullock from allowing counties in the state to hold vote-by-mail elections in November. Campaign Legal Center (CLC) is representing the League of Women Voters of Montana as a friend-of-the-court in this case.

On Sept. 25, 2020, Campaign Legal Center (CLC) sent a letter to the Pima County Recorder on behalf of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe asking to reinstate an early voting center on the tribal reservation and a ballot drop-off site. 

The National Task Force on Election Crises recently released a document outlining why it would violate federal law if a state legislature attempted to override the will of the state’s voters and appoint the legislature’s preferred presidential electors.

On September 11, 2020, the full membership of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit reversed the trial court decision in Jones v. DeSantis. The Eleventh Circuit’s decision allows Florida’s pay-to-vote system for people with past felony convictions to remain in place. 

Poll commissioned by Campaign Legal Center (CLC) and Protect Democracy and conducted by GS Strategy Group (R) and ALG Research (D). The online poll lasted from July 28-31, 2020 and surveyed 1,000 likely voters nationwide. The results show wide support for increased election funding.

The League of Women Voters and the NAACP New Jersey State Conference filed a motion to intervene in a lawsuit brought by the Trump Campaign and the RNC challenging New Jersey’s emergency election plan to mail ballots to all active voters in New Jersey.

After CLC and partners filed a friend-of-the-court brief in this case, the Washington Supreme Court issued an opinion interpreting the Washington constitution's uniformity provisions in a way that underscores the constitutionality of the Washington Voting Rights Act.

Campaign Legal Center (CLC) is representing two Tennessee citizens, Ernest Falls and Artie Bledsoe, who want to exercise their right to vote. Tennesseans, like these plaintiffs, who have been convicted of felonies in other states have an established legal right to vote in Tennessee if their rights of citizenship have been restored in the state of their conviction. This lawsuit seeks to verify that established legal right.
