The Wall Street Journal: Four Years Later, FEC Fines a Super PAC for Running a Mitt Romney Ad

The complaint was filed in February 2012 by the Campaign Legal Center, which advocates reducing the influence of money in politics. The FEC notified it on Friday that Restore Our Future had agreed to pay the fine.

“This was a blatant violation of the law.  It’s unacceptable that the FEC took nearly four years to resolve the matter with a fine that amounts to a light slap on the wrist for millions of dollars in illegal spending,” Paul S. Ryan, deputy executive director for the group, said in a statement.  “On the bright side, the FEC has now confirmed the obvious: It’s illegal for Super PACs to recycle candidate campaign ads.”
