They Can Vote – But Not in Iowa

Iowa and Kentucky are the only states that permanently ban people convicted of felonies form voting unless their rights are restored by the governor or president. Groups like the Campaign Legal Center have taken notice of Iowa’s voting registration problems. On Wednesday, members of the groups will host panel discussions at the University of Iowa and Drake University titled “Criminalizing Voting Rights: How Felon Disenfranchisement is Undemocratic and What We Can Do to Restore Voting Rights for All Citizens.” Iowa’s law regarding felon voters is “arguable ambiguous,” said Blair Bowie, a lawyer for the Campaign Legal Center.
