"Brokered conventions came from the time when they were brokers," said Trevor Potter, counsel to Arizona Sen. John McCain's 2000 and 2008 presidential campaigns. "Those people don't exist. It's really unclear who the deal-cutters would be. It's all a little more fragmented and chaotic than it would have been in the days when there were bosses to cut deals."
