A majority of voters created the redistricting commission to draw Michigan’s legislative district lines after the 2020 election, shifting that power from the state Legislature. A 13-member body comprised of four Democrats, four Republicans and five independents will be assembled next year. Voters Not Politicians, the organization founded to shepherd the 2018 redistricting commission ballot proposal, and the Campaign Legal Center, which also supported the ballot proposal, praised Neff’s decision Monday. “The court was right to reject the attempt by the plaintiffs to use the courts to thwart the will of the people,” said Paul Smith, vice president of the Campaign Legal Center.
