Federal judge upholds Alabama law on felon voting disenfranchisement

Greater Birmingham Ministries joined with individuals who had been convicted of felonies in challenging the law as unconstitutional, claiming that it was racially discriminatory, discriminated on the basis of wealth, and violated due process because it was applied retroactively. They were represented by the Campaign Legal Center in Washington, D.C., and other attorneys. The plaintiffs updated their claims in 2017 after the Legislature changed the law.
