Amendment 1 has support from across the political spectrum because it would ban expensive lobbyist gifts, lower campaign contribution limits, require more transparency, and stop all political parties from protecting politicians in gerrymandered districts.

Clean Missouri’s supporters include former U.S. Sen. John Danforth, Rep. Nick Marshall, and many others, including the League of Women Voters of Missouri. All donations supporting Amendment 1 are reported openly and transparently to the Missouri Ethics Commission.

That transparency is why Kneibert knows about the one donation he mentions, which is a small fraction of over 27,000 donations averaging less than $100 each. Focusing on one supporter or another (one was called a “right-wing kingmaker” by Rolling Stone Magazine) is a distraction from the policy. Amendment 1 has been vetted by the nonpartisan Campaign Legal Center. Their president, Trevor Potter, was appointed by President George H.W. Bush to the FEC and has also endorsed Amendment 1.
