'Restore Your Vote' Highlights and Fights Felon Disenfranchisement

Under the banner of "Restore Your Vote," several community organizations are working to fight felony disenfranchisement by helping formerly incarcerated people restore their voting rights and advocating for new voting rights legislation.  Gicola Lane, a community organizer is working as an organizer for the Tennessee arm of Restore Your Vote. Lane headed up a press conference at the Jefferson Street offices of the NAACP's Nashville branch Wednesday morning, where she and others highlighted felony disenfranchisement as a descendant of slavery and Jim Crow, emphasizing the disproportionate impact such laws have on black voters.
