The Campaign Legal Center’s Ruth Greenwood takes on gerrymandering

In attorney Ruth Greenwood’s native Australia, political elections are treated quite differently than in the States: Polls open on weekends when fewer people are working, and the process is more of a celebratory process that involves cookouts and family events.Now based in Chicago, Greenwood is the co-director of Voting Rights and Redistricting for the Campaign Legal Center, a nonpartisan group that works to ensure that outside influences don’t hinder every citizen’s right and access to vote. Her primary focus has been on gerrymandering, the often-discriminatory practice of drawing legislative district lines in order to benefit certain candidates and parties.
