On May 29, 2020, CLC, joined by the National Institute on Money in Politics and Common Cause, filed an amicus brief in Illinois Opportunity v. Bullock in support of Montana’s transparency requirements for businesses that make political contributions and expenditures while seeking lucrative contracts with state government agencies. CLC and the other amici urge the court to uphold Montana’s transparency requirements for state contractors, which advance core First Amendment principles in promoting political transparency and preventing corruption in the government contracting process.

CLC is suing to suspend enforcement of Minnesota’s law requiring a third-party witness signature for voting by mail. This law threatens Minnesotans’ right to vote safely during the COVID-19 pandemic and imposes irrational restrictions on who can serve as a witness.
